Interview with Casper Guldbrandsen – High performance manager of the Danish hockey team

As the EuroHockey Indoor Champioship II - Espinho 2016 is almost here, the organization of the event decided to interview some persons of interest that will be part of the event taking place between 15th to 17th January. This time, Denmark’s high performance manager, Casper Gulbrandsen, kindly answered a few questions in behalf of the Danish team, as well as his own thoughts about the country hosting the event, Portugal.

How is being the preparation of your team for the EuroHockey Espinho 2016?
We have had several training sessions and a trip to Hamburg to play against some of the Bundesliga clubs. Furthermore, Denmark is participating at the 10th Mason Cup in Copenhagen next week where Qatar and Sweden, who finished 6th at last year’s Indoor World Cup, are considered the favorites.

What are your expectations?
We hope to play for promotion but there are some really strong teams in the tournament.

In your opinion, what are the strongest teams of this event?
England is the highest ranking team in the tournament and among the strongest teams together with Ukraine and Denmark.
Outsiders are Portugal that is a strong home nation.

Do you know Portugal? What do you think of the country?
Yes, I have been there as a tourist, as a hockey player for the Danish National team, for my club, Orient Lyngby, and as an EHF official. I always enjoy being in Portugal because of the climate and the hospitality.
